Funny old week really..weather wise. In Auckland, it
doesn’t know if it’s winter or spring or what. I groom myself ready for the new
day and it’s always different outside. I’m told sunshine, and I get rain….I’m
told calmness and I feel wind. It is that time of year I know, but it is not
easy to dress for the right conditions. It is easy for Alfa, because she just
sits inside all day as she is a house cat. Never to know the excitement of the great outdoors. Yes, she
can be often seen, hiding behind curtain, sleeping in mummy’s chair or just
being lazy in front of the heater that is turned off, but she thinks it’s on….poor

Daddy’s been very busy with his tuba practice. This is
good for him and a little disturbing for us. He practices his long low notes on
his tuba (Anton) and it really sounds like an elephant with a bad tummy . Alfa
and I don’t say anything, we just leave
the room and find somewhere peaceful. Daddy you see is performing with the MSO
next Saturday evening and playing Mahler 1, the Titan. This is a huge work with
many extras in the orchestra. There are 8 French horns and many more
instruments, but only one tuba. Daddy has to play loud enough to be heard over
everyone else. This no problem, because daddy is full of hot air and can make a
big noise…..sorry daddy, but it’s true.
A couple of instruments have found new homes this week. A
Bass Clarinet and Tenor Horn have made new homes down in Katikati. A lovely
girl came by yesterday and picked up the Yamaha Tenor Horn and also collected
the Vito Bass for the school down there. As well as these instruments, many
accessories have gone out the door. Two
flutes and two clarinets (one has already left for a new home in Greymouth)
arrived in from Japan. Always something happening at the House of Toot.
Daddy has just got back from rehearsal so I better go and
make him feel welcome. They say that there is no rest for the wicked..Mummy and
Daddy are always busy. Does this make them really wicked? You tell Zara. I can
keep a secret…
